28. August 2015 · Comments Off on Where Does Your Business Appear When A Customer Searches For You? · Categories: SEO, Training Courses · Tags: ,

local seo flower shopLocal businesses rely solely on local customers. However, local customers almost always search Google, review websites and social media before they call or visit a business.

Why?

They want to know who is going to fix their problem and provide the best possible service.

Consider this:

If a potential customer is new to your area, the Internet is the only source of referrals and reviews.

How does your business appear when a potential customer searches for a “Knoxville Plumber” or an “Indianapolis Dentist?”

In our recent course “Earn More Sales by Increasing Local Traffic To Your Website” ($69, Udemy, http://bit.ly/1fFFNLl), we conducted a simple search in Google for a “Greenville SC Florist.”

We discovered one firm – Twigs Florist – was doing it right in terms of local SEO. Within the Top 10 Google search results, Twigs was No. 1 in the Google Map (also known as Google+ Local or Google Maps) and No. 2 in Google organic search results.

In addition, Yelp was No. 7 with Twigs Florist taking the top position in Yelp. Therefore, of the Top 10 Google search results, Twigs owned the most “real estate” by owning three positions.

This is a result of the florist properly optimizing not only their own website for local SEO, but also properly claiming, confirming and optimizing their business profile listings in Yelp, Google+ Local and other review and local listing websites and mapping sites.

Each one of these listing websites acts like its own little search engine. Customers can search for businesses within Google or within sites like Yelp, Manta, City Search, etc.

These searching options create two scenarios and two different searching results. Your website, for instance, may rank high in Google, but your Yelp profile might not rank high within Yelp. Therefore, local businesses not only need to optimize their website for Google, but they need to accurately (and fully) complete their business profile within local listing and review websites, too.

You can learn more about higher rankings in Google, Yelp and other local listing websites in our course “Earn More Sales by Increasing Local Traffic To Your Website” http://bit.ly/1fFFNLl.

24. August 2015 · Comments Off on How To Improve Online Reviews For Your Business · Categories: ORM, Training Courses · Tags: , , , ,

improve online reviews and business reputationMany business owners – especially those who own and operate restaurants and hotels – may actually rely on the reviews left online by their customers.

Customers don’t want a bad experience or poor service. They really don’t. However, if they leave with a bad experience, they usually turn to Yelp or another online review website to share their opinions with the world.

As a business owner, you can learn from negative reviews, improve your online reviews and take steps to ensure better reviews and better communication with customers. Here’s how:

  • Make sure you’ve claimed and confirmed your business profile with online review websites; business listing websites and mapping sites. These would include services such as Yelp, Google+ Local, Bing Local, Manta and others.
  • Optimize your business profile with complete and accurate information. This includes correct address; telephone numbers; services and products offered; business hours; payment types accepted (including credit cards); photographs and videos. The more information you complete, the better your business will be ranked within the review website.
  • Keep your profile updated. Add new pictures and videos on a regular basis.
  • Respond to customers who leave reviews. Correspond with all customers through the review website. This shows other customers that you are grateful for good reviews and that you’re eager to solve any problems or poor customer experiences with your business. This goes a long way with potential new customers.
  • It’s perfectly fine to ask regular customers; family or friends for a review. Tell them you’re trying to improve your business’ reviews and, if they are willing to leave your business a review, you would appreciate it.
  • Never offer discounts or free services or food in exchange for good reviews.

For more information on earning better reviews, check out our course “Online Reputation Management: Handling Negative Reviews” on Udemy.com.

Mountain Woods Media, LLC is now offering a free preview and two lectures to its latest course on Udemy titled “Online Reputation Management: Negative Business Reviews.”

The course, which is currently available for $49, is designed for business owners who have experienced negative reviews on Yelp and other online review websites and want to improve their business’ online reputation management. Currently, over 200 students have signed up for the course.

The three videos include:

  • Overall Course Preview (approximately 2 minutes) offers viewers a sneak peek into what they will learn by taking this course.
  • “Everything’s Online As It Happens” – Section 1, Lecture 1 (approximately 7 minutes)
Everything we do and everything that happens is online. Now. We Tweet. We Facebook. We take pictures and videos and we publish and share them instantly. Individuals can post tornado videos and other news events faster than local media outlets. Therefore, it should come as no surprise when an unhappy customer can instantly whip out their cell phone and Tweet about your company or post a negative review about their experience. Customers who are unhappy have no problem telling the entire world (literally) of their dissatisfaction with your business.
  • “What is Online Reputation Management – Section 1, Lecture 2 (approximately 12 minutes)
This lecture explains the details of “online reputation” and “online reputation management” and helps lay the groundwork for handling negative reviews and protecting your business online. Every business and every individual has an online reputation, whether they know it exists or not! Daily, consumers ask for advice on what to buy; where to eat, etc. We ask and share recommendations all the time. What is shared online – good and bad – becomes part of your online reputation. This can not only include business reviews, but newspaper articles; radio and television stories; photographs; building permits; real estate transfers; blogs; lawsuits; divorce proceedings; arrest reports and more.

10. July 2015 · Comments Off on Not Your Typical Fathers Day · Categories: Game Design, Mountain Woods Media · Tags: , ,

Father’s Day started as any normal Sunday: a little extra sleep, followed by coffee and tablet surfing for the overnight news.

Sneaky Snakes on the Roof

Sneaky Snakes on the Roof!

It would quickly change.

At 9 a.m., our next door neighbor came over and rang the doorbell. He was holding a pair of binoculars and had this “you-are-not-going-to-believe-this” look on his face.

“There’s a snake on your roof,” he said.

Yep. Didn’t believe it.

Visual evidence followed as my neighbor directed me around to the side of the house and pointed in the direction of the serpent.

Yuck. Ugh. Shutter.

The black, evil creature was after a birds’ nest. You see, for the second time in three years, a family of sparrows had squeezed their way between a piece of metal and the main electrical line coming into the garage. The extra piece of metal was added last year (along with some insulation spray foam) in order to encourage the birds to nest elsewhere (like, say, IN A TREE!). However, the birds picked out the insulation and built a nest behind the “so-they-thought” protective piece of metal siding.

The birds were not happy about the slithering intruder.

Neither was my creeped-out neighbor (although the snake wasn’t his problem).

Remind you: it’s early on Father’s Day (a Sunday) and the birds are squawking away; kids are screaming and pointing and the neighborhood “men” are having in-depth, problem-solving discussions on what ” I ” should do.

I went back inside and had another cup of coffee.

Upon further investigation, the snake was stuck between the soffit and the metal trim. We suspected he ate something and his breakfast was lodged in a way that wasn’t allowing him to slither out. Perhaps, he was too greedy with the bird buffet.

Fast-forward 24 hours, the city animal control officer (and her son) came to the rescue. They borrowed our ladder; confirmed the snake was still alive and carefully removed the metal trim to free him. He had suffered some minor scraping from being pinned under the trim, but he seemed to be OK. He was taken to a local reptile expert for further care.

Of course, this snake story quickly reminded us of our iOS game “I Hate Snakes! Cobra, Rattlesnake & Copperhead Roundup” game which is available in both free http://apple.co/1gaxeTZ and paid http://apple.co/1gwSLGd versions.

Growing up in the mountains, creek stomping was a favorite past time in the hot summer months. You would put on your oldest pair of red tennis shoes, the ones with the holes in the toes, jump off the biggest rock into the eddies and pools of the three mountain creeks that surrounded our farm and spend the day stomping up and down the creek looking for blackberries, pretty quartz rocks for your rock collection, while chasing tadpoles and big crayfish that looked like miniature lobsters.

One day, at the part of the creek that ran through a large metal culvert under the driveway, a sneaky, enormous, poisonous copperhead snake came between me and the steep clay trail path that was my only way up and out of the creek. Petrified, I froze. My younger brothers were able to shoo the snake away by throwing rocks at it from the top of the creek bank, but ever since that day, I have been deathly afraid of most snakes. So shooting them with a loud, giant cannon in a pretend fantasy game seemed like a good solution to help me overcome my fear of snakes as an adult and was the inspiration for this game idea, “I Hate Snakes!”

29. June 2015 · Comments Off on Creating a Blueprint for more App Downloads With ZERO Budget · Categories: App Updates, Apple, ASO · Tags: , ,

app downloadsGetting more app downloads starts with number crunching

Developers can create the best game in the world, but without putting on their marketing hat, the app will fail.

Oh, we do the minimum: some keywords; a nifty title; a Facebook post and a Tweet, but it’s not nearly enough to truly earn a high number of downloads, sales and ad revenues.

So, we decided to back up a little bit and create a simple blueprint on how to get more downloads for our apps. An “App Downloads and Revenues” Template is available here for you to download.

In our next series of blogs, we’ll walk you through our step-by-step process of improving downloads and revenues of three (3) of our apps.

However, the past month and past quarter, we wanted to see what three apps have been earning the most downloads.

Then, we wanted to see the top revenue numbers by ad companies (AppLovin, Chartboost, etc.). This told us that, perhaps, we were giving too many ad impressions to “Ad Company A” and not getting any clicks or revenues and that maybe we needed to dial down “Company A” and give more impression opportunities to “Company B” and so on.

Next, we ranked the Top 10 apps that created the most ad revenue followed by the Top 10 apps that were generating the most Apple revenue (i.e., in-app purchases; app upgrades, etc.).

This simple spreadsheet can offer a few surprises when you look at all the categories.

For example, our top game by downloads is also No. 1 in ad revenue, but it’s not No. 1 in Apple revenue, which means we should work a little bit on improving or promoting our IAPs within the game.

We also found out a few games were doing well in ad revenue, but are low in download numbers, so we need to increase the downloads, etc.

When you view the good numbers, try to figure out why IAPs are great in your top three games and see what you can do to improve your IAPs in the games that are ranked No. 8, 9 and 10? Why is your No. 1 game earning twice as many downloads at your No. 2 and No. 3 game? Ask yourself questions like these and then come up with a plan for moving forward with improvements.

What’s next?

We selected three games for improvements. Some of these will include minor updates, but our July 2015 focus will be primarily on App Search Optimization (ASO and sometimes called “App Store Optimization”) and marketing techniques. We also plan to roll out this entire improvement project with ZERO budget.

As we move forward, we’ll share more information with you as well as our work progress and download updates.
